Edith Cochrane’s remarks scorched the city of La Sarre – Le Journal de Québec

Poverty, crowds, homelessness, flying and lots of action on the first of the month, MRC Abitibi-Ouest and the city of La Sarre did not like Edith Cochrane’s comments during the radio show Everything can happen on ICI Radio Canada.

At the invitation of presenter Marie-Louise Arsenault on March 18 to present the city of La Sarre where she grew up, the actress, presenter and director stated that she had not set foot there for a very long time, that the The place was fairly quiet, with wide streets and little hustle and bustle.

“Unfortunately I was in a bit of pain when I came back. When the first of the month comes, there is a lot going on. There’s a lot of poverty, homelessness and crowds,” she said.

She also said there were flies and lots of nature and lakes.

“The sky over Abitibi is wonderful. The sky is unlike any sky I’ve seen anywhere else. There’s space and it’s good for mental health,” she added.

An invitation

The people of MRC Abitibi-Ouest and the city of La Sarre wanted to correct Edith Cochrane’s comments in a press release shared on Thursday, specifying that this area is economically booming, attractive and welcoming.

“It’s so far removed from the reality of the many jobs we experience, the development of a multitude of projects and the vitality of our communities. The city of La Sarre, like the entire MRC Abitibi-Ouest area, has much more to offer than blackflies,” said Jaclin Bégin, Director of MRC Abitibi-Ouest. West, with a touch of humor.

A letter was sent to Edith Cochrane inviting her to meet the Prefect of the MRC and the Mayor of La Sarre to see the dynamism that is enlivening the city and the region as a whole.

“We hope that she will respond positively to our invitation to discover our city and all of Abitibi-Ouest from a new perspective. We are an area rich in nature, rich in quality of life, rich in people and rich in opportunities. It will be a great opportunity for them to reconnect with the blackflies and once again take advantage of the magnificent skies of our beautiful region,” added the Mayor of La Sarre, Yves Dubé.

The Journal contacted the actress, host and director to find out if she intended to accept the invitation, but she chose not to comment.
