Jessica Simpson’s coming-of-age series, inspired by her memoir Open Book, is being halted and shelved by Amazon Freevee

The scripted pilot, based on Jessica Simpson’s coming-of-age memoir Open Book, has been shelved from Amazon Freevee.

The 42-year-old singer was set to be one of the executive producers of the show — written by Californication’s Tom Kapinos — which is inspired by her best-selling memoir of the same name.

According to Deadline, the concept is currently being bought out from other production companies as Amazon Freevee changed its mind after ordering the pilot last October.

In the pilot episode, Katelyn Tarver, 33, was cast to play Sadie Sparrow – an aspiring singer based on the alum of The Dukes of Hazzard.

Alongside Tarver, John Stamos, 59, also played Butch Thorn – a divorced former singer/songwriter who has struggled with alcoholism and self-destructive tendencies.

According to Logline, Open Book follows pop star Sadie Sparrow on her journey from genius to music mogul.

Over time, the show introduces viewers to “the family, friends, and lovers she gathers along the way” and “[touches] on topics such as love, friendship, divorce, family, sisterhood, relationships, soul mates, Hollywood and the music business.’

The In This Skin singer – who celebrated the fourth birthday of her youngest child Birdie earlier this week – released her memoir in February 2020.

In the first 14 weeks, Open Book sold around half a million copies in 121 countries.

At the time, her memoir became one of the most successful memoirs penned by a female entertainment personality.

In Open Book, Simpson chronicled her life story — from childhood to fame and beyond.

She also addressed her first marriage to Nick Lachey and their “doomed” relationship.

In 2006, the former couple divorced after four years of marriage, and Simpson later revealed the real reason for their split in her book.

The couple originally cited “irreconcilable differences” in their divorce proceedings, but Simpson revealed they had started faking their marriage to appear like “the perfect couple”.

In her autobiography, she opened up about her romantic life, her struggles with substance abuse, and the childhood trauma she experienced growing up.

The same year her book was published, Simpson had announced that she had signed a multimedia rights deal with Amazon.

The agreement also included a series of short stories published by Amazon Original Stories.
