Eye drops caused the deaths of three patients and the loss of vision in eight others. It’s a health drama that’s gripped the United States for several weeks. US health officials have recommended that healthcare professionals and patients stop using EzriCare and Delsam Pharma artificial drops, TF1 Info reports.

Three people died after using eye drops from 10 different brands, and eight people lost their sight as a result of contamination, and four of them had to undergo partial or total eyeball removal. The drops at the source of this infection were contaminated with a bacterium, for reasons still unknown: the pyocyanin bacillus. This rare bacterium causes eye secretions of many colors. Blurred vision and hypersensitivity to light are among the symptoms. Anyone who has used these products and is experiencing symptoms should see a doctor as soon as possible, health officials said.

A patient files a complaint

The two companies suspected of being the source of this contamination belong to the Global Pharma group. The eye drops in question are manufactured in India and then imported into the United States.
