War in Ukraine: Wagner group frees 5,000 ex Russian prisoners for fighting under their orders

The deal was easy for these prisoners, who were pardoned at the end of their respective contracts.

More than 5,000 former prisoners were pardoned Russia after fighting Ukraine within wagnerdeclared on Saturday Evguéni Prigojine, founder of this paramilitary organization.

Yevgeny Prigojine recruited thousands of prisoners to expand Wagner’s ranks in support of therussian army in Ukraine and promised them freedom at the end of their contract. “To date, more than 5,000 people have been pardoned after their contracts with Wagner ended,” said this presidential ally. Vladimir Putin in a post on Telegram.

The Wagner group is currently focusing its efforts in the Bakhmout region, where it says it controls most of the territory.
