The board of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) this Saturday approved the official recognition of the President of the Cup-Free Spain Republic Cup competition, giving Levante the title of Champion of the Year 1937 and additionally recognizing him Deportivo de la Coruña the title of the Spanish competition of 1912. The Board, which will meet this Saturday in Malaga ahead of the qualifying match for the 2024 European Championship between Spain and Norway in La Rosaleda (8.45 p.m.), thus approves the proposal, at the request of President Luis Rubiales.
The President of the Spanish Republic Cup was played in Barcelona on 18 July 1937 between Valencia and Levante Fútbol club, the latter being the winner. “In 2019, Levante Unión Deportiva and the Valencian Community Federation informed the RFEF of a series of events of a sporting nature to request recognition of the title, always recognizing the exceptionality of the moment and the context of the civil war in which the tournament took place “, explained the RFEF, who pointed out that “the FIFA agreements held in Paris of October 6, 2017″.

Likewise, the Board recognized the official status of the Concurso de España competition and awarded the title of Champion of the Year 1912 to Real Club Deportivo de la Coruña. “Similarly, all the documents provided were analyzed and the linked expert reports on the historical field of football were taken into account,” said the association.
