The Canadian manufacturer Simaudio has specialized in high-end hi-fi electronics with its Moon brand. We have already tested several of its amplifiers, DACs, network players or phono preamps and each time we have appreciated their manufacturing quality and their extremely rigorous and serious technical approach. In 2022, the Moon brand launched its first hi-fi speaker, the Voice 22 shelf model. Let’s see if it shows so much rigor and seriousness.

The Moon Voice 22, together with the connected Moon Neo ACE amplifier, has just received an award from the EISA hifi jury (of which we are not part), which named the system the “best high stereo set area” for 2022 / Season 2023. That’s a very good first point.
The Moon Voice 22 speaker is relatively compact and unobtrusive. It is a library model, two-way, equipped with two loudspeakers matched in bass reflex by a port opening to the rear. The lacquered finish (available in black or white version) is very neat but in no way seeks originality. On the other hand, as far as the technical approach is concerned, we already find this constant search for perfection in the brand’s electronics, even with some innovative details.
Joinery with grooved walls and a smart foundation
The housing of the Moon Voice 22 consists of 20mm thick midrange panels. It is stiffened by an internal horizontal perforated panel. Load damping is ensured by Dacron, but above all, each of the side panels of the box is machined internally with a wide serpentine groove filled with damping resin. This is quite an original idea to combat the cabinet’s parasitic resonances. This Simaudio-specific process called CGD (Curved Groove Damping) is currently being patented.
In addition, the lower wall is hollowed out over a large area on the outside. In this way, it can accommodate the standard, wide arched foot with cushioning and anti-slip pad. This base, which fits under the box and is held in place by magnets, provides a perfect base for the speaker when placed on a shelf or sideboard.
Nothing is left to chance when assembling the Moon Voice 22: The back is closed off by a thick, flush-mounted aluminum plate that firmly fixes the port and carries the distribution filter. The latter uses high-end audiophile components, including Bennic polypropylene capacitors.
Well sourced Canadian-Danish-Indonesian speakers
The two loudspeakers are installed as close together as possible on the baffle in order to achieve a better fusion of bass and treble. They are screwed onto metal inserts and framed by aluminum strapping to present the most precise assembly possible.
The speakers are somewhat reminiscent of Dynaudio models. According to our information and conclusion, they were designed to specifications by another Danish company, design office SB Acoustics, and are manufactured by its Indonesian industrial partner Sinar Baja Electric.
The 15.5 cm woofer has a cast iron shell, a powerful 10 cm wide ventilated motor and a carbon-filled polypropylene cone (like Dynaudio).
The 29mm textile dome tweeter has a large rear damping chamber and is housed at the bottom of a large horn primer that places its dispersion center almost on the same vertical plane as that of the woofer.
A voice that sounds strong and gives personality to the brand
Simaudio claims that the Moon brand finally has its own voice with the new Voice 22. The risk for them would have been that their first speakers would not have brought much that was new or relevant. For an electronics manufacturer, getting started with loudspeakers is never easy. Our tests showed us that Simaudio successfully passed the test. If we push the limits a little, we could even say that the Voice 22 Moon finally give a real sound signature. In fact, in their quest for perfection, we can fault the Moon electronics for lacking a bit of personality. The Moon Voice 22 have a lot. We were able to try them out with a Moon Neo ACE amp and the trio work particularly well.
On the Prodbyalecs and Prodbyturea mix “Payday (Deluxe)” featuring IDK (which, oddly enough, has fallen off the radar of online music services since our testing), we are immediately taken by the pulsations in the bass, so much so that a listener listening during was present during our tests was animated by a kind of Scottish itch. Such a sense of physical density is rare in speakers of this size. The Moon Voice 22’s carbon-containing polypropylene cone boomers deliver particularly crisp, clean, punchy and powerful bass.
But the Moon Voice 22 are not only characterized by their dense and percussive low registers. They also perform fairly well for small speakers. Thanks to the proximity between woofer and tweeter and the presence of a large horn starter on the tweeter, the spectrum is of excellent homogeneity. This results in a very good cohesion of all registers, but also in a great stability of the stereo image. The latter, while showing breadth and depth, is well framed and focused.
Some may find the Moon Voice 22’s tones a little too dull. It’s true that these speakers don’t invoke an artificial glow. The treble nevertheless has a nice opening and rises gently. The set performs excellently, even when the volume is turned up openly. He’s never snappy or soft-spoken, he’s in control but doesn’t come across as stuck or too reserved either. With the Moon Voice 22, Simaudio signs the first hi-fi speakers with perfectly controlled and particularly well-optimized characteristics.
in summary
Simaudio’s Moon Voice 22 are two-way speakers, really regal (or buffet), high-end approach and very successful. They’re a bit pricey overall. From €2,000 per pair there is serious competition. Nevertheless, they impress with their powerful bass, their tonal balance of excellent homogeneity, their punch and their stereo image of beautiful openness. We particularly liked you.
