This was expressed in this capital when she was a speaker at the XXVIII. Ibero-American Summits of Heads of State and Government occurred.
The president cited the “failures” and “frustrations” that are keeping the Mercosur negotiations with the European Union without a deal, which the South American statesmen involved add new obstacles for the European bloc to an agreement.
Lacalle Pou, in his speech, praised the opportunity that this meeting offered for bilateral meetings, like those he had with Chilean President Gabriel Boric and with Spanish King Felipe VI.
He also appreciated the organization of the “Young Leaders” Summit and the Businessmen’s Summit.
The South American ruler celebrated the importance of environmental issues at the summit and other international forums. In Santo Domingo, he defended the development of “green hydrogen” as an economic opportunity for the region, an energy source his government is championing.
“Let’s work until we accept and live with our differences, as long as we believe that our country exists in our consensus and common ground, which is what makes us strong,” Lacalle Pou said.
The summit will be attended by representatives of 22 Latin American countries, as well as Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
