Carey Price meets players from Indigenous communities

About thirty junior players from the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association were welcomed by the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, and a special guest came to meet them: none other than Carey Price.

The Habs goalkeeper took the time to sign autographs and talk to the kids. The 35-year-old, who still wears his famous cowboy hat, also donned one of the sweaters that were specially created for the indigenous communities after work. The Canadiens players will wear this jersey as they warm up ahead of the evening’s clash against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Bell Centre.

Remember that Price hails from Anahim Lake, a village surrounded by Native American reservations in British Columbia. His mother is also a chief of the Ulkatcho First Nation and the hockey player has always wanted to pay tribute to his heritage.

Before meeting the goaltender, the young Kahnawake players got a chance to practice on the ice rink at Bell Center during a training session led by former defenseman Gaston Gingras. Mike Matheson’s wife Emily and Jordan Harris’ girlfriend Codie joined them on the ice.
