ECHL: a comeback the Lions can’t complete

The Trois-Rivières Lions were tricked at the Colisée Videotron on Saturday by the Norfolk Admirals, the ECHL’s worst team, who were defeated 4-3 in overtime. Led by their captain Cédric Montminy, the Montreal Canadiens school club almost fought back from behind.

The Mauricie team lost that three-game streak after suffering a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday before winning 5-0 on Friday. Goalkeeper Joe Vrbetic, author of this shutout, took advantage of a day off this time and it was Philippe Desrosiers who stood in front of the cage.

The Quebecer made some good saves early in the game, but the Admirals still took a 3-0 lead. Ryan Francis closed the gap midway through the second period with the first of his three points of the game.

Trois-Rivières took advantage of the visitors’ lack of discipline to score two goals on the power play in the ensuing period. Montminy hit the target every time.

However, the Admirals had never lost in regular time this season, having led after two thirds. Ryan Foss ended the debate in overtime. The forward has seven points in nine games against the Lions this season.

For Marc-André Bergeron’s men it was the penultimate duel at home. They will play their next eight games away from home. They will be in Worcester on Wednesday to take on the Railers.
