Giammattei’s message during the second session of the XXVIII. Ibero-American Summit in the Dominican Republic came through a video that Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro presented to the participants.
In his speech, the Head of State emphasized the Ibero-American system as “a place of opportunity that will try to take certain steps towards the development of our peoples”, as stated in the motto of this meeting “Together for a fair and sustainable Ibero-America”.
Giammattei expressed his confidence that the summit will continue to build bridges based on more effective construction of the development agenda.
«This space represents a privileged platform to promote a constructive dialogue between us. Guatemala is a country committed to multilateralism and therefore, faced with a challenging context, we must prepare for the future and consolidate the region as a reliable partner to work together with united actions,” he said.
The Guatemalan President congratulated his Dominican Republic counterpart, Luis Abinader, on the work done at the head of the pro tempore presidency, which has strengthened the bonds of friendship and esteem between the two nations, as well as the will and political commitment to enable a better Iberoamerica.
“We begin this edition of the Summit with the hope that it will be a success and that it will lead to the adoption of a political declaration and other initiatives to renew the region’s commitment to fair and sustainable development for all of its inhabitants,” stressed out of.
Giammattei took the opportunity to report on some of his government’s actions to ensure what he called a new development agenda to ensure prosperity, as well as measures to protect the environment, preserve protected and biological areas, marine ecosystems and food security.
Likewise, he advocated measures to promote an inclusive and open digital environment and promote South-South and triangular cooperation based on the needs of each nation as important complements to fulfill the development agenda.
“More than ever, regional cooperation must be a mechanism that uses the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects of other major crises as an opportunity,” he urged the heads of state and government present at the appointment acceptance of various documents closes its doors.
