Easy Chili con Carne – Salut Bonjour

INGREDIENTS

  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, roughly chopped
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (796 ml)
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) cumin
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) chili powder
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) garlic salt
  • 1 or 2 pinches of cayenne pepper
  • 1 C. tablespoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 can (540ml) red kidney beans, rinsed well and drained
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) ketchup
  • 454 g lean ground beef

accompaniment

  • 60 ml (1⁄4 cup) sour cream for garnish
  • 1 large bunch of fresh coriander, finely chopped

METHOD

  • Separate the diced tomatoes from their juice. Reserve both.
  • In a frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper. Salt and pepper from the mill and sauté for 3 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for another 2 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef and seasonings, then cook 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently so the beef is no longer pink and well crumbled.
  • Deglaze with the juice of the stewed tomatoes. Let reduce for 3 minutes. Stir in the diced tomatoes and ketchup. Heat for another 2 minutes. Add the red beans and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring gently.
  • Serve in deep bowls, garnished with sour cream and a nice sprig of fresh coriander, if you like.
