Mont Carmel A woman in critical condition after a snowmobile accident

Bellechasse: a body in a block of ice pulled from the St. Lawrence

The body of a man was found in a block of ice at Beaumont in Bellechasse on Saturday night.

Around 5 p.m., a passerby saw the frost-covered body being carried by the waves to rocks along the Saint Lawrence River.

The city’s fire department was the first to arrive. However, since the site where the body was found was inaccessible to road vehicles in winter, first responders had to use all-terrain vehicles to get to the water’s edge.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) then dispatched investigators and forensic identification technicians to shed light on the situation.

Later that evening, it remained unclear who was hiding under the thick layer of ice. SQ spokeswoman Béatrice d’Orsainville estimated that “it would take several hours before the person could be identified”.
