US actor John Majors arrested in New York

American actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York on Saturday and charged with strangulation, assault and molestation, authorities said.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) said Majors, 33, was involved in a domestic violence case involving a 30-year-old woman. Police intervened after a 911 call was left at a Manhattan apartment around 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

“The victim notified police that he was assaulted,” an NYPD spokesman said in a statement, according to the Associated Press, adding that Majors is in authorities’ custody.

The victim reportedly suffered minor neck and head injuries and was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

The actor, who starred in Creed III, which is still in theaters, has not been arrested since Saturday night.

A representative for Jonathan Majors told the media that his client did nothing wrong. “We are in the process of clearing his name of any wrongdoing and moving on,” he said.

Majors is currently an aspiring actor in Hollywood having starred in numerous films over the past few years including The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Da 5 Bloods among others.
