A photo radar was installed, among other things, near the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge tunnel as a reminder not to exceed the 50 km/h limit near the mega construction site.

“As soon as you see orange, be careful,” warns Bertrand Godin, racing driver and road safety expert.

It is also one of the most profitable photo radars in Quebec, raking in more than $400,000 in less than a month.

“When there is a lot of traffic, we don’t get the most tickets at that time, but when the traffic is flowing,” explains the traffic safety expert. “When people go from a 100 km/h zone to 70 km/h, they always think it’s 100 km/h.”

According to Mr. Godin, the photo radar at the entrance is very well indicated in each direction of the bridge tunnel. Signs were placed in front of the photo radar to alert motorists to its presence.

“It is the great misfortune of those who are inattentive behind the wheel,” explains Mr. Godin. “Often people significantly exceed the speed limits, so it’s necessary for worker safety.”

Quebec decided to install a photo radar on the site of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel because some motorists exceeded the 50 km/h limit.

Any user who violates this will receive a fine, the amount of which will be doubled since it is a construction site.

Remember that three out of six lanes will be closed until 2025 to carry out the bridge tunnel work.
