Student loses limb after eating classmate’s pasta
The story was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. According to the information, the noodles were stored overnight in the refrigerator one day after consumption. After the boy ate the food, health complications arose.
The case was widely reported in a public YouTube video. The patient was identified as “JC” who ate the dish purchased at a local restaurant.
Understand the story better
The 19yearold boy is from New England in the United States of America (USA). He was diagnosed with severe blood poisoning and had to have both legs amputated. After eating the noodles, the boy complained of severe abdominal pain and was generally unwell.
The young man’s skin began to turn purple when he was taken to the hospital by his friend. The onsite team diagnosed him with fulminant meningococcemia a type of infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. The condition was confirmed by a specific blood test.
In other words, the boy had meningococcal meningitis, which can be prevented with a vaccine. In this case, the young man had taken the vaccine at age 12 but had not taken the booster dose.
Contaminated noodles and overreaction
The egg noodle dish was contaminated and the boy’s body overreacted to the presence of the bacteria. Sepsis is exactly that. The reaction caused the immune system itself to damage the tissues of the human body and could have killed the student.
The image was so bad that he had to amputate two legs and part of his ten fingers. Check out the picture of how it turned out:
