A nine-year-old girl died on Sunday after a sad accident while playing in the snow in Saint-Ubalde in Portneuf.
At around 2:40 p.m., the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called to intervene as the child was in cardiopulmonary arrest behind a family home.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. Rescue maneuvers were carried out as soon as he was taken care of.
“She was playing in a snow fort with another seven-year-old girl when the structure visibly collapsed on them,” said SQ spokeswoman Béatrice d’Orsainville.
The younger of the two children escaped with minor injuries.
Shocked
“It’s very sad and it hits me, we are very close to the people, we are a municipality with 1,500 inhabitants. The community is in shock. We will do everything we can to help the family with this terrible accident,” Saint-Ubalde Mayor Guy Germain told the Journal.
The mayor, who was out of town this afternoon, heard the news from his fire chief, who went to the scene with members of his team to try to save the young girl.
“Yes, I kept in touch with him to hear about the two young girls who were transported by ambulance, but unfortunately…” the mayor sighed, touched.
Mr. Germain indicated that the community will establish a protocol for family support.
