Jonathan Majors has been charged with multiple misdemeanor assaults and harassment after he was accused of assaulting a woman during an alleged “domestic argument,” Manhattan prosecutors confirmed.
New York City Police Department said Majors, the star of Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was arrested Saturday when police responded to an 911 call at an apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
According to the police, a 30-year-old woman suffered minor head and neck injuries and was taken to a hospital. Majors was released from police custody on Saturday night.
On Monday, prosecutors confirmed the actor had been charged with multiple third-degree assaults, three attempted third-degree assaults, one second-degree aggravated assault and one second-degree assault.
A judge fired majors of his own accord and issued a limited protection order. His next court date is scheduled for May 8th.
In the complaint, the unnamed accuser alleged that the defendant “slapped her in the face with an open hand, causing significant pain and a laceration behind her ear” and that he “put his hand on her neck, causing bruising and significant pain.” have. .
“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and has been proven to be the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows,” the actor’s criminal defense attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement Sunday after his arrest. “We are rapidly gathering evidence and presenting it to the district attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped shortly.”
Chaudhry has previously claimed video footage of the vehicle in which the alleged incident took place, testimonies from the driver and bystanders, and two written statements from the woman, who recanted her allegations, were among the evidence gathered.
“The NYPD needs to make an arrest in these situations and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested,” Chaudhry added.
A representative from the Majors also denied any wrongdoing by the actor. “He did nothing wrong,” the rep said in an email. “We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”
Majors has long-term plans with Marvel Studios to play Kang, the main villain in the studio’s current film and television phase, which will result in him headlining Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, due out in 2025.
Advertisements for the US Army with majors were also halted after his arrest, with the Army’s corporate marketing office saying in a statement it was “deeply concerned by the allegations.”
While Majors “is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we withdraw our charges pending the investigation of these allegations,” they added.
