The field for the 2023 NCAA Women’s Tournament Final Four is officially set today, with two marquee games marking the conclusion of the Elite Eight. 1-seeded South Carolina and Virginia Tech are hoping to smack their tickets to Dallas, but fellow top seeders Stanford and Indiana proved that no path is certain, falling faster than virtually anyone could have predicted this tournament .
In the opening game, South Carolina extended its winning streak to 42 games with a win over Maryland to advance to a third straight Final Four with a chance to win back-to-back national championships. Aliyah Boston scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Zia Cooke finished the heavy lift at the perimeter with 18 points. Maryland got a big night from Diamond Miller in the loss. She led all scorers with 24 points in 9-of-16 shooting and grabbed five boards.
The Gamecocks take on Iowa in their Final Four match, and LSU takes on the winner of No. 1 seeded Virginia Tech and No. 3 seeded Ohio State, who played in the last Elite Eight game at the Seattle 3 Regional meet. The Hokies earn a 73-64 win over No. 4 seed Tennessee, a game in which Georgia Amoore exploded and scored 29 points to extend their 20-point streak to five. Ohio State, meanwhile, upset No. 2 UConn, 73-61, into the Sweet 16 and hopes to play spoilers again.
