The career of the 31st player on the world chessboard ended with the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Maple Leaf representative lost the first set 7-6 (0) and was leading 2-0 in the second set.

In the third game, Andreescu appeared to twist her left ankle and collapsed to the ground. She cried out “not yet” in tears. The one who has been plagued by numerous injuries in her career left the field in a wheelchair.

She was heard telling a sports therapist that she had “never felt this kind of pain before.”

In the first run, Andreescu showed a bumpy performance.

She was leading 3-2 when Mother Nature decided to spoil the game. In fact, the rain put the confrontation on hold for more than an hour.

On the return, Alexandrova appeared to be on a mission, winning three games in a row. Andreescu had yet to say her last word, however, and came back strong to force a tie-break. In this case, however, the Ontarian was completely dominated by the 18th seed of the Florida event.

In the quarterfinals, Alexandrova has an appointment with the Czech Petra Kvitova.
