The portfolio announced that the Modern Vision Mixed Institution in the West Division was the first to fulfill the formality.
The registration, which ends on April 28, shows the will of the authorities to transform the school, Minister Nesmy Manigat assured when presenting the initiative to the press.
The conversion, he added, would not be possible without reliable data on the number of functioning schools, their location, the number of teachers affiliated and others, the school’s principal said.
In Haiti, about 90 percent of schools are private, and on several occasions education authorities have warned that some of them are not part of the education system.
They also denounced that some teachers are not qualified to teach classes with which students finish the courses without sufficient knowledge.
Since taking office in late 2021, Manigat has pushed ahead with a series of measures to control educational centers, implement classes in Creole, the native language of more than 95 percent of the population, and reopen schools despite the crisis of violence, reflecting the insecurity the country is experiencing.
Manigat, already in office during Michel Martelly’s tenure, set about consolidating the education system, restoring schools in “lawless areas” and reforming academic plans to promote equitable education.
