MasterChef 11 begins a controversial double issue at the top

Audiences once again supported Monday night’s premiere of MasterChef, making the cook-off topping its slot with a 13.8% audience share at the premiere of its eleventh edition.

Despite achieving first place for La 1, the Shine Iberia program remains the least watched premiere in its history. The average viewership was the lowest ever: 1,531,000 people. The numbers are still well above the broadcaster’s average. Its direct competitor, The Island of Temptations on Telecinco, averaged 1,451,000 viewers and a 12.2% share, and Turkish soap opera Hermanos averaged 1,335,000 followers and a 12.3% share.

On this occasion, MasterChef is offering a double edition since it airs every Monday and Tuesday and has up to 30 participants, one of whom will be excluded each night. For this, the manufacturer has expanded its set and changed its mechanics. Instead of three tests a night, the Monday shows feature two set tests and the elimination of a competitor. Every Tuesday there will be an outdoor test and another elimination, explained Macarena Rey, Executive Director of Shine Iberia, in mid-March during the press conference presenting this 11th edition.

MasterChef officials have already announced that the first two episodes will continue to be as extensive as the previous editions, ending after 1am to introduce all the candidates. This Tuesday it starts at 10.35pm after the UEFA qualifier between Scotland and Spain and lasts three hours. It will be from next week when the competition ends earlier.

At the moment, the cooking talent has presented its first 23 applicants in its Monday program with a wide age range between 18 and 58 years. Among them, and as in previous editions, there are several social network stars. The remaining participants, up to the announced 30, will be admitted as the program progresses.

Tamara Falcó, winner of one of the prominent editions of the competition, was the first guest of this edition. After the first elimination candidates were selected, it was Roberto, a 45-year-old gastronomy consultant from Palma de Mallorca who has owned several restaurants, who was the first to be eliminated.
