The 29-year-old was crowned on Tuesday, shortly after the final event of the season in Verbier, Switzerland, was canceled due to uncertain weather conditions.

Leader of the standings after the first four stages of the 2023 season, Dufour-Lapointe was therefore awarded the title.

“I’m speechless. To be honest, I didn’t realize it was going to happen today [mardi]but I’m world champion now,” she said in a statement from the FWT.

“I’ve worked so hard over the last few months. I am so proud of the work that was done and that I believed in myself. Finishing this season with this title means everything to me.”

After working for a long time in the world freestyle skiing circus, notably taking part in three Olympic Games, Dufour-Lapointe decided to make the leap to the professional freeskiing circus. She excelled there, winning the stage at Ordino Arcalis in the Principality of Andorra.

“It was my dream when I started free skiing, but I never thought that it would be possible so quickly,” she also said of her coronation. I’m very happy to have made the switch to freeskiing and the wonderful world of FWT. I am exited what is going to happen next. That’s just the beginning.”
