In view of the “complexity of the clinical picture” of the accused, additional reports had been requested, we learned on Tuesday morning in the Laval courthouse. The next court date is scheduled for April 26th.
Pierre Ny St-Amand is charged with the first-degree murder of 4-year-old Jacob Gauthier and 5-year-old Maëva David. The driver of the Société de transport de Laval (STL) also faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault in which several children were injured.
At his last appearance on February 24th the defense attorney had pointed out that his client’s psychiatric report indicated his suitability. Therefore, according to this sealed report, Pierre Ny St-Amand was deemed to be able to understand the court case against him.
His lawyer, Me Julien Lespérance Hudon, subsequently requested that his client undergo a psychiatric evaluation to establish his criminal liability at the time of the crime. The presentation of this report was then announced for March 28th. Since the required additional tests could not be carried out by this date, an extension of the deadline was granted on Tuesday.
