Alexis Barrière stars at a GYM gala this spring

Quebec’s Alexis Barrière will return to the arena fairly quickly as he will contest victory with American Mike Marshall during the main confrontation of a Yvon Michel Group (GYM) boxing gala on April 20 at the Cabaret du Montreal Casino.

Canadian Heavyweight Champion Barrière (9-0-0, 7 KOs) defeated Zamig Atakishiyev (8-1-1, 6 KOs) of Azerbaijan by unanimous decision in their final match on March 18 in Châteauguay. He will attempt to take down Marshall (6-4-1, 4 KOs), the defending New England champion.

“I am very impressed with Alexis’ development and progress over the past two years,” GYM President Yvon Michel said in a statement. Alexis Barrière is a talented young heavyweight with excellent technique and superior ring intelligence. He has everything it takes to become a very big popular star.

Six fights will be presented on the same evening. Light heavyweight Terry Osias (11-0-0, 5 KOs) will be the star of the semis after beating Francy Ntetu last month. In the women’s event, 19-year-old Alberta flyweight Alexas Kubicki (6-0-0, 0 KOs), ranked No. 4 in the IBF world, will contest an eight-round duel against a yet-to-be-determined rival. The southpaw has defeated two veteran and former world champions, Isabel Millan and Maria Salinas, in her last two appearances in the ring.

Also in action, veteran Yan Pellerin (13-2-0, 5 KOs) will once again swap his role as a promoter for that of a boxer. The former NABO Light Heavyweight Champion meets Mexico’s Alexis Olmos (7-4-0, 3 KOs) in a six-round duel.

Also on the schedule are Sherbrooke light heavyweight Petar Gavrilovic (5-0-0, 1 KO) and Quebec’s Kevin Menoche (7-0-0, 5 KOs).
