Persistent rumors suggest that the Oppo and OnePlus brands could withdraw from the European markets. Officially, however, they deny these statements, claiming to honor their commitments.
The origin of the story goes back to a complaint filed in Germany by the Nokia brand for infringement of one of its patents related to 4G and 5G technologies by the Oppo and OnePlus brands. The latter were found guilty of using 4G and 5G signals without paying the relevant license after realizing that the amount was far too high. This led to an update of the German Oppo page, which is completely stripped of all mentions of a phone, for example. Ditto for the OnePlus site. We then wondered if the brands would continue to market mobile phones in Europe after this decision.
In March, during MWC in Barcelona, the brands were relatively understated. Oppo had no announcement to make however, having launched the Find N2 Flip on the French market a few weeks earlier, OnePlus still showed the innovative OnePlus 11 Concept. Just before the official presentation of the new high-end Find X6 series, quite well-informed people put forward the fact THE Find X6 Pro would not be available in all markets and could only be offered in China, worrying information when we know that brands like to show their know-how and the X6 Pro version represents what the company does best in the field of telephony and inflight photography . We were therefore expecting to welcome the Find X6 standard version soon, but in the meantime a new rumor has surfaced: Max Jambor tweeted that the Oppo and OnePlus brands withdrew from the European markets. It wasn’t entirely clear which countries would be affected, leaving the door open to almost all possibilities. France represents one of the largest markets for these brands and its withdrawal could have particularly adverse consequences.
The floor at Oppo France
We were able to contact Oppo France and the brand’s representatives told us that they would continue to be present. According to them: “OPPO and OnePlus maintain their commitments in all European markets where they are present. We’ve had a great start to 2023 with the successful launch of several products in Europe and we have a number of products ahead of us for the rest of the year. As always, OPPO and OnePlus will continue to provide more innovative products and the best service for users. »
We will therefore see in the coming weeks or months whether the products actually arrive. OnePlus is expected to make the Nord CE 3 Lite 5G mid-range smartphone official on April 4th, and we’re waiting for news on the release of the Find X6 series with a Pro version… or not.
