Actress Melissa Joan Hart describes how she helps kids flee campus after school shooting in Nashville

(CNN) Actress Melissa Joan Hart said she was near Covenant School in Nashville shortly after Monday’s fatal shooting of six people, including three children, and helped some students get away from the scene.

“My kids go to school right next to a school where there was a shooting today,” Hart said in an Instagram video posted Tuesday. Hart said she waited a day to post the video because it was “too raw to post” the day it was filmed.

“We helped a class of kindergarten kids across a busy road who were coming out of the woods trying to escape the shooting at their school,” Hart said.

“We helped all these tiny … kids cross the street and got their teachers there, and we helped a mother reunite with her kids.”

Best known for her work as a child actress, Hart has starred in the sitcoms Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She said her own children’s school did not hold classes Monday due to previously scheduled parent-teacher conferences.

Hart said this isn’t the first time her family has been in close proximity to a school shooting. “We moved here from Connecticut, where we were in a school a little further from Sandy Hook,” she said, referring to the 2012 elementary school massacre that killed 20 children and six adults.

“I just don’t know what to say anymore. It’s easy, enough is enough.”

The attack in Nashville came at the private Christian elementary school Monday morning when a heavily armed gunman fired through glass doors to gain entry, killing three 9-year-old students and three adults before being fatally shot by police.

It was the deadliest shooting at a US school in nearly a year and the 19th shooting at a school or university in 2023 in which at least one person was injured, a CNN tally shows.
