“They made a monster!”: Emmerdale fans vent their anger at Samson’s dramatic personality change after his blackmail plot was exposed

Emmerdale fans couldn’t believe how the “decent” Samson Dingle transformed into a “twisted” and “bitter monster” after watching Wednesday’s episode.

The teenager, played by Sam Hall, faced the wrath of Charity (Emma Atkins) after she discovered he had blackmailed her son Noah, who had given his cousin all of Esther’s trust fund.

Samson was unrepentant and refused to return the thousands of pounds after being confronted about his wrongdoing in a screaming fight on the street with Charity and his father Sam.

Even Sam’s threat to throw him out of the house if he doesn’t return the money didn’t bother him and later told his father he had packed his bags.

When Samson told his father that he was not a great role model himself and that, unlike him, he dreams of becoming rich, he threw his keys on the street and refused to give Noah the money back.

Fans watching were unfazed by Samson’s radical character change, joking that it was almost like he’d been “taken over by an alien.”

One wrote: “I hate the way they created a monster with Samson last year, like a personality transplant! Hope he keeps the money and goes now!!!! Hate his smugness!!!!!!!!!’

Another viewer chimed in: “The writers really screwed up Samson’s character. He used to be decent. Now he’s a hideous little blackmailing sociopath.”

A third added, “Samson was definitely taken over by an alien!”, while a fourth added, “I hate what they did to Samson’s character.”

It comes after fans rejoiced when Noah revealed his cousin’s blackmail scheme to his mother Charity in Tuesday’s episode.

When Samson and Amelia’s (Daisy Campbell) daughter Esther was born last October, Samson shocked the village by refusing to have anything to do with her.

But recently, Samson began to develop an interest in Esther after hearing that Amelia’s friend Noah (Jack Downham) had received a trust fund worth thousands of pounds.

In earlier episodes, the villain demanded more money from Noah in exchange for staying out of Amelia and Esther’s lives.

But his evil conspiracy seems to be unraveling as tensions rose when Charity questioned why Noah wouldn’t help pay for Esther’s childcare with his money.

“So just give her the money, it’s not like you don’t have it,” Charity yelled at her son.

“I really admired the change in your life, Amelia is trying, she’s going to college, don’t you want the same for her?” she asked.

Noah revealed the truth and said, ‘I’m out of money.’

A confused charity fired back: “What do you mean? You can’t have spent it all.”

“I’m being blackmailed! Please stop asking questions because it will only make things worse,” Noah exclaimed.

Charity replied: “Is it someone you’ve crossed on the inside who’s blackmailing you? Is that why you’re afraid?’

Noah told his mother that the blackmailer was actually his cousin Samson, to which she said angrily, “There’s no way he can get away with this!”

‘Mum please all I care about is getting Amelia and Esther back if you go and tell them now I’ll lose them!’ Noah pleaded.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 19:30 on ITV1 and ITVX.
