Melissa Joan Hart says she helped ‘tiny kids’ flee shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Actress Melissa Joan Hart said she and her husband helped a class of kindergarten children who fled the school shooting in Nashville earlier this week.

Hart said in a video posted to Instagram Tuesday that her children attend a school next to the private Christian Covenant School. She said she and her husband went to their children’s school conferences on Monday as they helped some students get away from the shooting that killed six people.

“We helped a class of preschoolers across a busy freeway,” she said, her voice cracking, “climbing out of the woods — trying, um, to escape the shooting at their school. So we helped all these little kids cross the street and get their teachers over there, and we helped a mother reunite with her kids.”

Hart said she moved to Nashville from Connecticut and her children were attending a school near Sandy Hook Elementary when 26 children were shot there in 2012.

“This is our second experience of a school shooting where our children are in close proximity. Luckily we’re all doing well,” she said.

She said she took the video on Monday but it was too raw to post that day.

“I don’t know what to say anymore,” she said. “Enough is enough.”

A rep for Hart, who has starred in sitcoms like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, did not immediately respond to a message from The Associated Press asking for further comment.
