Quebec Gourmet City Discover the new chain where you can

Québec, Gourmet City: Discover the new chain where you can have lunch anytime – Le Journal de Québec

Fancy lunch on a Tuesday night but the person at your house wants a burger? You’ll be served by the new Au Petit Chalet chain, which offers all-day breakfast and liquor at cost.

The concept has it all: a hearty breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and a gourmet burger menu in the evening. Add to that tempting appetizers like nachos or melted brie, and the option to sip a glass of wine or a beer at restaurateur’s price.

“It’s a very unique concept,” proudly introduces Nathan Todd, co-owner of the chain, which is part of Groupe Blanchette.

The company had such a crush on the gourmet breakfasts at family restaurant Au Petit Chalet in Blainville that it bought the brand to franchise and launch the new Quebec chain.

Gigantic plates

The restaurant, which opened its first branch on Bouvier last week, is characterized by very, very generous portions.

“This is by far the place where the plates are the biggest. It’s greedy, and it’s not for nothing that our slogan is: “It’s deliciously pork,” says Nathan.

And my visit made me see that it wasn’t just a formula!

The plates are gigantic without skimping on quality.

Everything is homemade, like the maple-smoked ham and finger-licking potatoes with a delicious spice mix. If, like me, you judge the quality of a breakfast restaurant by the care taken in the production of the potatoes, you will not be disappointed.

The menu also features various sweet and savory combinations, such as the Festin du Chalet, which includes a banana Nutella waffle, a choice of meat, eggs, potatoes, and toast.

The cost of the plates ranges from $13 to $22, good value.

Warm facility

As the name suggests, the vibe is relaxed and log cabin-inspired. Plum-shaped light fixtures, brick, wooden slats, and red and black checkered fabric inserts add a soothing and warm touch. Giant screens installed on the side of the benches act like a window and, thanks to 3D video, convey the feeling of being in the middle of nature. Charming!

A second store will open next week on Maguire Avenue, in the huge premises that have housed Cochon Dingue and more recently Chaz.

“We’re really going to fill a need because there’s no lunch menu on Maguire Street,” Nathan rightly points out.

The chain aims to win the hearts of the people of Quebec, plate by plate, before later expanding to other parts of the province.

Delicious brunch

Since last November, Le District Gourmet in Sainte-Foy has been offering weekend breakfasts from 9am to 2pm. French bistro menus L’Atrium and Mlle Inès are available. The Benedictine eggs and casserole are worth the detour, as is Miss Inès’ breakfast burger. The more adventurous won’t want to miss the Chicken N’Waffles: fried chicken, bacon and cheese curds served between two waffle wedges.

Local products

The La Signature restaurant in Limoilou offers delicious brunches with local and organic products. Located in the former fun en bouche, the restaurant continues the tradition of high-end lunch. The choice is huge and will appeal to both vegetarians and meat lovers. I fell in love with the beef strips, gouda cheese, mushrooms and onion benes. A little joy!
