New analysis who is most affected by Post Covid

New analysis who is most affected by Post Covid

Scientists show that women, in particular, are affected by the after-effects of a Covid infection – 56% more often than men!

Researchers led by Vasiliki Tsampasian of the Department of Cardiology at Norfolk University Hospital in Norwich, Great Britain, summarized and reanalyzed 41 studies on the topic of post-Covid syndrome. Data from 869,783 patients were included in the meta-study.

“Millions of people around the world are affected by post-Covid syndrome. It is important to understand the risk factors for this complex disease in order to identify those patients who are at increased risk and who may benefit from early medical support”, says the Study statement published in “JAMA Internal Medicine.”

Especially women, the elderly, overweight people and smokers are more likely to develop post-Covid syndrome. The analysis shows that women are 56% more likely to develop symptoms, the elderly 20% and obese patients 15% more likely to develop symptoms. Smokers were affected ten percent more often.
Particularly interesting: patients who had to be treated in the hospital due to a severe course of Covid had twice as many subsequent restrictions.

Less frequently vaccinated affected

It’s still true: vaccination helps. Because Covid patients who were vaccinated at least twice were 43% less likely to be affected by Post Covid.
