Shows for every budget at the 23rd edition of the Carrefour international de théâtre

The Carrefour international de théâtre is innovating. He is judging for his 23rde Publication, pricing based on personal circumstances. A ticket for one of the performances costs between 0 and 47 US dollars.

Four prizes will guide the public in choosing the shows that will be presented from May 25th to June 10th at Le Diamant, Le Périscope, La Bordée, La Charpente des Fauves and the Grand Théâtre de Québec. Prices are based on trust and honesty.

“We want to make the event accessible to as many people as possible. If we always do the same thing, it doesn’t lead to different results,” said Dominique Violette, general manager, on Wednesday morning when the program was unveiled.

If you count on every cent and don’t want to miss out on the Carrefour international de théâtre, you can get a ticket for one performance free of charge.

It costs $17 for someone willing to take an artistic risk, but not a financial one. The $33 ticket is offered to regular viewers, a loyal subscriber, or a cultural creator. The $47 is for audiences sensitive to the financial interests of the performing arts.

diversity

This initiative was inspired by the Théâtre Cercle Molière in Winnipeg, which introduced this type of pricing for its seasonal shows two years ago.

“We must act for public renewal and take the bull by the horns. It’s pretty daring, but if we don’t try, we’ll never know. We did a lot of thinking and calculating. We rely on people’s honesty,” added Dominique Violette.

25-year-old Artistic Director of the Carrefour international de théâtre, Marie Gignac presented her latest program of diversity, originality and daring.

“An edition that is firmly rooted in the present while looking to the future and drawing inspiration from the past through works of fiction, autobiography and documentary,” she remarked.

a marathon

The immersive experience ‘Till We Die’ by Brigitte Poupart kicks off its 23rd edition with six performances at Le Diamant from May 25th to 28th. This multidisciplinary show combining circus, dance, music and theater consists of 12 performers.

“It begins with a still image of a catastrophe. The music begins and, conversely, we experience once again what caused this catastrophe. The viewer can choose his perspective. Actors and spectators are on the same stage. At the end the party goes on, with a DJ and we can party until the theater kicks us out,” explained Brigitte Poupart.

We will find in the ten works on display theatrical objects from Australia (The Shadow Whose Prey Prey The Hunter Becomes), Switzerland (Phèdre!), Winnipeg (Angle Mort) and a Canadian co-production – France-Belgium with Anna Traits that darken me, by Steve Gagnon.

Designer Émile Beauchemin, who suffered a heart attack at the age of 25, will complete a 42km marathon on a treadmill at the Periscope on June 6th and 7th. H+ wonders about transhumanism and the real possibilities for increasing one’s physical and mental abilities.

The ambulatory show Where do you go when you sleepwalk…? will be back at the Parc des Moulins in Charlesbourg on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9pm to 11pm.
