Vatican: Pope Francis hospitalized for a "heart problem"according to several media

The Holy See announced earlier on Wednesday that the sovereign Pope had been hospitalized in Rome for preliminary examinations.

Pope Francis was hospitalized on Wednesday with a “heart problem,” multiple outlets, including Il Corriere della Sera and El Mundo, reported. The Vatican announced earlier in the day that the sovereign Pope had been hospitalized in Rome for a check-up that had already been planned.

In the morning, the Argentine Jesuit, who reached the milestone of his 10-year pontificate in mid-March, attended, as every Wednesday, the weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square, where he appeared smiling and greeting the supporters of his “popemobile”.

A previous hospitalization of 10 days

François, who has been in a wheelchair since May 2022 because of chronic knee pain, had already been hospitalized for 10 days in July 2021 at the Gemelli Hospital for major intestinal surgery.

In an interview in January, he hinted that his problems with the inflammation of the diverticula – hernias, or pockets that form on the walls of the digestive tract – had returned.
