USA: Several victims after the crash of two army helicopters

Two US Army Black Hawk helicopters crashed Wednesday night during a training mission in the United States, in the state of Kentucky, causing “multiple casualties,” the Army said early Thursday morning.

The accident happened around 10:00 p.m. during a routine operation. The 101st Airborne Division, to which the helicopters belonged, said the crash resulted in “multiple casualties” without providing details of their health status or number.

Both planes crashed in Trigg County northwest of Fort Campbell, where the 101st Airborne Division is based.

“The command is currently turning its attention to the soldiers and their families,” the army said in a statement.

According to a US military website, the HH-60 Black Hawk model helicopters involved in the crash can carry up to 11 people.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he will be driving to Fort Campbell Thursday morning. He reported “difficult news” in a tweet that night and said he feared “sacrifices.” Police and the Kentucky State Rescue were at work at the time, he added.
