The Atlanta Braves earned an opening-day win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday but may have lost Max Fried for an extended period. Fried ended the game with an out in the fourth inning due to discomfort in his left hamstring after covering the first base pocket. Brian Snitker said after the game that Fried will definitely miss his next start and will likely go on the injured list.

For what it’s worth, Fried said after the game that he was unaware of a potential trip to the injured list. The Braves don’t really have to decide until it’s Fried’s turn again.

Spencer Strider and Jared Shuster will field the remaining two games against the Nationals. Charlie Morton and Dylan Dodd are scheduled to field the first two games in St. Louis. Fried would have snapped for the last game. Snitker had no updates as to who the Braves might turn to for launch. Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder seem like the most likely options.

Fried batted brilliantly in the spring, allowing four hits, one run and two hits in 3 1/3 innings. Two of those hits came on balls lost in the sun.

We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
