The noose around Donald Trump is tightening. A grand jury in a New York court has voted to indict the former president in a 2016 case in which he bought a porn actress’ silence, US media including the New York Times and CNN (in English). The judiciary believes this payment could be a hidden donation to the Trump campaign in violation of campaign finance laws.
This is an unprecedented fact for a former President. Donald Trump, who dreams of winning her back in 2024, is set to be formally charged in the coming days by the New York State Justice Department and his Manhattan attorney, Alvin Bragg, with paying $130,000 to actress and pornographic director Stormy Daniels.
For years, the judiciary has been trying to determine whether the 76-year-old former Republican president’s payment made him guilty of misrepresentation, a minor felony, or a violation of campaign finance laws, a misdemeanor. The goal was for her to remain silent about an alleged extramarital affair 10 years ago.
