Presidente Supermarket co founder found guilty of manslaughter 7 South Florida

Manuel Marín was charged with second-degree murder, but the jury found him guilty of manslaughter.

There are also two other counts of criminal conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping.

After almost five hours of deliberations this Thursday, the jury found Manuel Marín “guilty of negligent manslaughter, criminal conspiracy to commit kidnapping and kidnapping.”

“We are glad that justice has finally been done for the family after so many years,” prosecutors said in the case.

Marin, now 69, has been charged with second-degree murder.

For the June 2011 murder of businessman Camilo Salazar, his then-wife’s lover, whose body was tortured, decapitated and burned, according to authorities, in an area near the Everglades. A case involving three other people who had already faced the law.

The co-founder of the Presidente supermarkets stayed abroad for several years. Marín was taken into custody in Spain and extradited to Miami Dade County in 2019, where he was wanted by police authorities.

After the verdict, prosecutor Katherine Fernández Rundle issued a press release.

“In today’s guilty verdict, a Miami Dade jury recognized the power of Marin’s jealousy that led him to direct the death and torture of Camilo Salazar. Marín’s flight to Spain only prolonged the agony of the Salazar family as they awaited justice to come today.”

Relatives of Manuel Marín present in the room did not want to make any statements.

For his part, the defense attorney told us this afternoon that there would be no day for the verdict at the moment as they would be appealing.
