Sam Burgess’ ex-boyfriends have fallen out over their opinions on celibacy.
On Thursday, Phoebe – who split from the Rabbitohs star for the second and final time in October 2019 – uploaded her latest podcast episode celebrating being celibate for four years.
Speaking to guest and author Nikki Gemmell, who recently wrote about her decision to give up sex through menopause, the couple opened up about their lives as “sexless” women.
Phoebe explained that she jumped on the abstinence bandwagon after breaking up with Sam.
The mother-of-two added she was frustrated that she was called “embittered” over her decision to be celibate.

“It’s funny, isn’t it?” she said to Nikki at Under the Gloss. “How we get hit with a label like on the head.
“You’re in perimenopause. I’m divorced, bitter ex-wife. And it is these roles that we have to take on. We are both genderless women.”
The former WAG went on to say that avoiding sex gave her a “sense of freedom.”
“I’m 33. But the association with life after sex or missing my gender has gone from my life. I associated that deeply with a sense of freedom,” she said.
“I’ve been a serial monogamist my whole life, Nikki, and I haven’t had sex in three and a half years, almost four. And I’m not, I’m not willing to risk that freedom.’
Meanwhile, Jana Hocking – who had a brief romance with the retired NRL star in 2021 – wrote about why she thinks the idea of not having sex is “rubbish”.
The 37-year-old criticized the new “Wake” and “Unsexy” trend.

Meanwhile, Jana Hocking – who had a brief romance with the retired NRL star in 2021 – wrote about why she thinks the idea of not having sex is “rubbish”.
“It’s about literally crossing your legs, shutting up shop, putting a closed sign on your nether regions, and saying a too-da-loo to your sex life,” she wrote in a column in the New York Post that just was released once an hour before Phoebe released her latest podcast episode.
“This new celibacy trend is a form of sexual negativity that some people claim has ‘changed their lives,'” she added.
“Pick up a scroll on TikTok and you’ll be inundated with people ranting about how they’ve discovered clearer mental clarity and have enough energy to fuel a speedboat.”
Jana went on to claim that “health gurus” promote “the idea of abstinence as a form of self-help,” but she believes it’s more of a form of “self-avoidance.”
“Rather than bury your head in the sand, avoid all feelings and just say, ‘Okay, I’m just never going to have sex again,’ may I suggest therapy instead?” She continued.
Phoebe previously claimed she could “write a book on celibacy” because she was the “most boring woman in Australia” after giving up sex and alcohol.
“Earlier this year, celibacy started trending on social media, attracting more than a billion views on TikTok,” she said in an episode of her podcast last year.
“People said that not having sex voluntarily gave them a clear head.”
“If that’s the case, I’m the clearest woman in Australia!” She added, admitting that she “misses sex.”
Phoebe and Sam married in 2015, separated in late 2018 and resumed dating in early 2019. They separated for good on October 2 of that year and later divorced. The former couple share daughters Poppy, six, and Billy, four.

Meanwhile, in 2021, Jana and Sam were spotted partying together in Sydney.
The dating guru said she thought Sam was “lovely” after they “connected” during a wild night on the town.
“I thought he was adorable and for a brief moment it was the loving attention I needed,” she wrote.
Sam has since moved on with fashion designer Lucy Graham and the two are expecting their first child together – five months after their relationship went public.
Chron Australia exclusively revealed last week that Lucy is pregnant and the couple are over the moon.
