A group of Hemmingford citizens made a heroic gesture when they managed to free the horse that had fallen into the swimming pool of one of them.
The story begins early this morning when two horses belonging to a Montérégie township resident ran away from their owner.
“My dog started howling around 1:30 am,” says François Pouliot. Verger Hemmingford’s owner immediately contacted 911 to make sure the horses didn’t cause an accident on nearby Route 202.
Constantly that the citizens took care of the animals, he and his wife went back to bed. At around 8:30 a.m., an employee of the couple called asking for help as their hair had fallen into a neighbor’s pool.
“We all got together to help the horses […] we are a small community that helps each other,” adds Mr. Pouliot.
With the help of volunteer firefighters and several neighbors, the group of citizens broke the ice, freed the horses, and threw ropes to prop them out of the water.

The horse has just emerged from the pool it fell into in Hemmingford on Friday morning.
After a few minutes of effort, one of the two hairs sank to the bottom of the hollow part of the pelvis.
“We held him by the mane, we did everything we could to keep him out of the water, but he was too tired,” laments Mr. Pouliot.
All energies were quickly redirected to the mare, who continued to fight for her life. After several failed attempts, they finally managed to get her out of the water. After the mare calmed down, they kept her warm with blankets to increase her body heat as she suffered from hypothermia.
The good Samaritan is happy that he was able to save at least one of the two animals. The rescued mare is doing well and, according to the information we have, would have been cared for at an animal shelter.
