Pierre Lampron, who dedicated his life to developing and promoting Quebec’s culture, died on March 29 at the age of 77.

The deceased is survived by his wife Lise Julien, with whom he shared his daily life for 57 years. The couple had two sons, Julien and Antoine. The grief also affects his six grandchildren – Hadrien, Sophie, Romain, Charles, Jeanne and Louis – as well as his relatives and friends.

Mr Lampron was a senior civil servant at the Department for Culture and Communications from 1981 to 1989. In particular, he was involved in the implementation of the Access to Information Act. He was also Director of Telefilm Canada’s Paris and London offices from 1989 to 1995. He then served as the first CEO of Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) from 1995 to 1999 before becoming CEO of TV5 Americas in 1999-2000, then President of TVA Films from 2000 to 2004 and Vice President of Institutional Relations from 2004 to 2009 at Quebecor.

Pierre Lampron was elected councilor for the Vieux-Rosemont district of Montreal, a position he held from 2009 to 2012 in the caucus of Louise Harel’s party. During his time in politics, he notably served as Vice President of the City of Montreal’s Commission des finances publiques.

He has also served on the boards of the Théâtre du Rideau Vert and the University of Quebec in Montreal.

During his career, Pierre Lampron was made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature of the French Republic in 1991, a Knight of the National Order of Merit of the French Republic in 1998 and a Knight of the Pléiade Order of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie in 2001. He also received the Samuel de Champlain Prize in recognition of his significant role in France-Quebec relations.

Condolences will be received for Pierre Lampron’s family on April 15 at the Funéraire Complexe Mont-Royal, in the Outremont district. The family would like to thank the medical team at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont and the palliative care team at CLSC Côte-des-Neiges.
