The Prime Minister, in the conclusions of the welcome ceremony, emphasized the symbolism of the event, the potential that is opening up for greater cultural, tourist, commercial and economic exchanges between the Caribbean countries and described the day as a happy one.

He thanked for the expressions of solidarity, support and collaboration that “the fraternal peoples and governments of Cuba and Venezuela” had received over the years.

The construction of Argyle International Airport, which celebrated its sixth birthday a few weeks ago, was also the result of cooperation between these nations, recalled the Cuban ambassador here, José Manuel Leyva.

He also stressed that with the arrival of this first plane, the dreams of former Presidents Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez of a closer and more united region have been fulfilled.

The Antillean diplomat highlighted the role played by Gonsalves, as well as the Presidents of Cuba and Venezuela, Miguel Díaz Canel and Nicolás Maduro, in the realization of the new route.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony were the Chancellor of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Keysal Melissa Peters, the Secretary of Tourism, Carlos James, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Venezuela in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Francisco Pérez Santana.

The local prime minister was joined at the ceremony by heads of departments, officials, guests of honor and members of the media.
