Today, Twitter users notice that a picture of a dog has been added in a prominent place. You can see it for yourself on Twitter.com, where you’ll be greeted with a pup:

The special dog image – a Shiba Inu – corresponds to the logo of the Dogecoin blockchain and cryptocurrency.

Typically, swapping or adding an icon within an app is nothing new. In this case, cryptocurrency investors caused Dogecoin’s value to soar as its logo was added to the Twitter app. In short, the social media service’s update has resulted in a pump.

Look, I don’t want to live on this planet any longer either.

The larger context for this latest Twitter silliness is that social media service owner Elon Musk is on trial over Dogecoin and is trying to dismiss a massive cryptocurrency-related lawsuit. In that lawsuit, Musk’s attorneys recently called Dogecoin a “legitimate cryptocurrency that continues to hold a market cap of nearly $10 billion,” arguing that Musk’s tweets about it were just that. We assume this app update is part of Musk’s overall view of the litigation.

At the time of writing, Dogecoin is valued at around $12.4 billion. Perhaps the crypto winter is behind us.
