An aide to the former vice president has indicated he will not appeal a judge’s decision ordering him to appear before the special attorney’s grand jury examining Trump’s efforts to remain in power

This is potentially a crucial testimony that Congress was never able to obtain. While a judge last week ordered Mike Pence to appear before a federal grand jury examining Trump’s efforts to stay in power between the presidential race and the attack on Capitol Hill, an aide to the former vice president hinted on Wednesday suggesting that the latter would not appeal.

However, it is not excluded that Donald Trump, who wanted to block the testimony of all his loved ones, will appeal himself.

Possible Pence-Trump duel in primary

Mike Pence had won a partial victory last week: the judge had recognized that given his position as Senate President in confirming the findings, Pence had the right to refuse to speak about his actions on the day of the attack on the Capitol. But he must provide answers to any questions about possible crimes committed by Donald Trump as part of the investigation being handled by Special Attorney Jack Smith. The latter focuses both on the January 6 violence, but also on efforts by Donald Trump to pressure local elected officials and Mike Pence to prevent the verdict from being authenticated at the ballot box.

Donald Trump, who was indicted in New York on Tuesday in the Stormy Daniels case, is seeking a new term in 2024 and Mike Pence could be among those who will challenge him for the Republican nomination. The televised debates promise to be lively.
