The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 52-year-old man who allegedly faked his own kidnapping in Sabadell, Barcelona, Catalan police said in a statement on Thursday. According to the police note, the arrested man “pretended that he was being deprived of his liberty and that his alleged kidnappers were demanding 2,500 euros as a ransom”.
The incidents happened on March 20, when the detainee’s mother received messages on her cellphone alerting her that her son had been kidnapped and demanding that she pay 2,500 euros or they would “cause injuries.” “. The mother went to the Sant Cugat del Vallès police station (Barcelona) to make a complaint and the Central Unit for Kidnapping and Extortion of the Criminal Investigation Department (DIC) took over the investigation.
“From the outset, all credibility was given to the kidnapping and resources customary in these cases were activated to locate and release the alleged kidnapper,” the statement added. During the investigation, agents determined that the man was in the center of Sabadell and “he had been seen walking down the street,” and they located him, confirming that the kidnapping was fabricated and that he himself was on the news his mother had sent him to deal with some personal debts that she had.
The Catalan police arrested the man for allegedly faking kidnapping and for allegedly making conditional threats against the applicant. After going to court, the detainee was released on charges.
On the other hand, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona), the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly abusing his dog, they said in a statement on Thursday. The incidents happened around 5pm on March 24, when a woman found a puppy on the street and took it to the veterinarian, while at the same time calling the Catalan police to clarify the matter. Several witnesses said they saw “someone throw the animal from the fourth floor and the dog was locked on the balcony crying and barking for the rest of the morning”. After multiple efforts, agents this Tuesday located the dog’s owner and arrested him on a felony of pet abuse. The detainee with a history appeared in court this Wednesday and the judge ordered his release with charges
