The 29-year-old told the judges he was unaware of his wife’s wishes throughout the trip and that he chose to visit Arthur’s Seat only to surprise her. According to him, the fall from the cliff was an accident. “We took a picture, I slipped and she put her foot down – he underlined in front of the judges –. I tried to save her, but it was already too late.”
This version of events is denied by the woman who first alerted the police after the fall. “She asked me not to let her husband get close because he was the one who pushed her,” Daniyah Rafique told the judges, who were later heard during the investigation. The 31-year-old, who was still able to answer questions, is said to have told police shortly before her death to examine the 29-year-old who was with her.
