Adamari López has almost four decades of experience. He spent more than 25% of his career on the Telemundo screen (Telemundo)

Adamari López’s career on the Telemundo network has been one of the most distinguished in the world of Hispanic entertainment. The Puerto Rican actress and presenter has managed to establish herself as a popular and well-respected figure on Latin American television, particularly in the morning show realm.

Surprisingly, the working marriage between the Puerto Rican artist and the Spanish-language television network in the United States came to a premature and unexpected end, both for the public and for her, who received the news after the show ended this morning this Thursday, April 6.

Telemundo broke the news

The chain, part of the corporate group of conglomerate NBC Universal, released a statement on the decision as soon as López left the Telemundo Center’s facilities.

“After 11 years, Telemundo and Adamari López have mutually decided that this is the right time for her to step down from her role as presenter of Today. Adamari has been a staple of Telemundo’s Tomorrow for over a decadewho helps Hispanics get their day started with her charming and energetic personality.

Adamari is a multifaceted, highly talented television host who has been part of numerous network specials and programs and always connects and serves our viewers with her charisma, authenticity and charm. We are deeply grateful for your continued commitment to Telemundo. and we look forward to working with her on future projects.”

It’s not the most common. Normally, Telemundo only makes such statements at the request of the press. This time the text appeared in the mailboxes of the entertainment press.

The end of an era

Adamari López’s era at Telemundo began in June 2012 when she became part of the cast of the show Levántate, then called Un Nuevo Día. Airing Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., this morning show was a mix of entertainment, news and lifestyle. Adamari joined the show as host and collaborator, sharing the screen with other talent such as Omar Germenos, Azucena Cierco, Rashel Díaz and Daniel Sarcos.

“I come to bring laughter, sympathy, those segments that I’d like to have more with people. I still don’t have the segments clear, I can’t talk much about them, but there will be contact with people. to see why they’re having difficult times, what facet they’re struggling with, if it’s a woman who’s had an illness, come and tell us your story,” she told HuffPost in Spanish when she debuted on the show .

Gradually, the moderators of the chain changed. Germenos left Telemundo, Cierco became an entertainment reporter with a special focus on Mexican regionality. Eventually, Daniel Sarcos and Rashel Díaz also left. Also, Ana María Canseco came and went, as did Chef James, Héctor Sandarti, Chiquibaby and many more. There came a time when the HR department on the show Un Nuevo Día was like a revolving door.

While all of these changes were underway, La Chaparrita de Oro, as the Puerto Rican artist is known, seemed untouchable on Spanish-language television. Telemundo picture studies showed her as a crowd favorite year after year.

It wasn’t for less. Telemundo was the main beneficiary of the ups and downs in López’s life and allowed them to share them on the show. Shortly after López joined the network, her book Living went on sale, in which she spoke about her breast cancer trial and breaking up with ex-husband Luis Fonsi. Her romance with the dancer Toni Costa, her struggle to get pregnant, the death of her father, the birth of her daughter Alaïa and the special moments of her family life, the pneumonia that brought her to the brink of death, her breakup with Costa and even his fight against obesity. Everything was openly discussed on the show, there were exclusive news, and there were even awkward moments. Every milestone in López’s life meant a rating increase.

The perception was that she would stay on Telemundo for as long as she wanted. This seemed to be confirmed in the last quarter of 2022 when Telemundo renewed the morning program again to try again to give the fight to ‘Despierta América’, his morning rival, doubling his rating. With the exception of López, all drivers have left. His new companions were veteran hostess Penélope Menchaca and rookies Andrea Meza and Chiqui Bombom and the name of the program became “Hoy Día”. Then came the Colombian actor Daniel Arenas.

According to journalist Mandy Fridmann, the artist was summoned to Telemundo’s human resources department, where she was told that her contract would not be renewed. López has not commented on the matter, although it is known that he agreed with the chain and said the decision was mutual.

The artist told Yahoo Vida y Estilo that she has no professional plans beyond Today because “the hours and the work are perfect for me at this time since Alaïa is still small”. However, he had not closed the door on acting. “Who knows in the future if it will work out with my family,” he said. It seems that the future has arrived.
