Actor Jeremy Renner suffered a horrific accident on New Year’s Day when he was crushed by a snowplow at his home in Nevada while trying to save his nephew. The actor recently said in an interview that his injuries were so severe that it was believed he would not survive. Now a doctor who treated the ‘Hawkeye’ star has spoken openly about his injuries and said the actor has come a long way on his road to recovery.
dr Christopher Vincent, a chiropractic sports medicine doctor, spoke to CNN and revealed that a major nerve or vital organ was just millimeters away from being hit by the machine. “As unfortunate as he is to have such a tragic injury, he’s so fortunate to have the injuries where they are,” he said.
He went on to tell the outlet, “He’s pushing through and really has the determination not just to heal, but to come back stronger and better than before.”
Mr. Renner will likely need rehabilitation for the rest of his life, but the doctor believes the Oscar-nominated star of Marvel’s Avengers movies has the will to get through the pain and wounds.
In a recent interview with Good Morning America, the actor opened up about what happened after he was run over by a seven-ton snowplow. “If I was there alone, it would have been a horrible way to die. And I certainly would have done that. Certainly,” he said in the clip.
“But I wasn’t alone. It was my nephew. Sweet Alex,” he continued with tears in his eyes.
Mr. Renner was immediately rushed to the hospital, but when he got there he wasn’t sure he would make it. “So I’m writing notes on my phone (those are the) last words to my family,” he said while in a wheelchair.
The ‘The Hurt Locker’ star added that despite everything, he would “do it all over again” as he saved his nephew. The accident left him with over 30 broken bones, but the actor said: “I made a choice to survive. It won’t kill me. No way.”
