More than 100 US military secrets have been leaked recently. This could become a real problem for Ukraine.
Leaked classified documents revealing US national security secrets relating to Ukraine, China and the Middle East show just how deeply the Pentagon has infiltrated Russian intelligence. The documents, which surfaced on Twitter, Telegram, the 4chan message board and elsewhere on Friday, contain warnings to US intelligence agencies about Russian attacks on Ukraine and even details of specific planned targets, reports the New York Times.

The documents portray a defeated Russian army fighting its war in Ukraine and a deeply compromised military apparatus. They contain real-time daily alerts for US intelligence on the timing of attacks in Moscow and even their specific targets. Thanks to this information, the United States was able to give Ukraine important self-defense advice.

The documents also show how the war devastated both sides of the conflict – a Russian army compromised and decimated, and a Ukrainian army low on anti-aircraft ammunition. The classified documents also reveal US efforts to spy on Ukraine’s political and military leaders, as well as a plan jointly developed with NATO to help Ukraine launch a counterattack.
One of the leaked documents contained “a secret plan for the US and NATO to prepare and equip nine Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades for the spring offensive”, according to a Telegram account through which the documents were leaked.
“Real damage” for Ukraine
The information leak has the potential to do real damage to Ukraine’s war effort, according to The New York Times, because it will reveal which Russian agencies the United States knows best about. The Department of Justice launched an investigation into the leaks in parallel with the Department of Defense investigation. Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the Department of Defense has officially referred the matter to the Department of Justice. “We have communicated with the Department of Defense about this matter and are investigating,” a Justice Department spokeswoman said. Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had met with senior military officials to “discuss measures to prevent the release of information”.
