While the West is reacting “hysterically” to Russia’s plans to build nuclear weapons storage facilities in neighboring Belarus, the presence of US nuclear weapons in Europe is being forgotten, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Kremlin said in Peskov on Sunday.

“The collective West is not inclined to remember in any way the problem of American nuclear weapons stationed here in Europe in our country, but in this case they tend to have such a hysterical reaction to our plans to build nuclear weapons facilities. storage for tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus,” said Peskov in an interview with the Russian TV channel Rossiya-1.

The official further commented on talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting in Moscow on Thursday, noting that nuclear weapons are an important issue at the moment.

“Well, that’s a very important issue now. We are seeing a very strong reaction from the collective West to President Putin’s announcements,” Peskov said.

Putin announced on March 25 that Russia would complete the construction of a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, drawing strong international criticism.

Moscow will start training teams in early April, Putin said, adding that Russia will have completed construction of a tactical nuclear weapons storage facility in Belarus by July 1 and that control of the weapons will not be transferred to Minsk.
