A father who was in a drunk car accident apparently tried to flee police, escaping his 2-year-old son, who drowned in a Massachusetts creek on Friday night.
According to the state police, it all started when patrol officers were called to the scene of an accident in Clarksburg shortly before 2 a.m.
On scene, emergency services quickly determined that the driver, Darel Galorenzo, a 35-year-old Vermont resident, fled on foot, taking his 2-year-old infant with him.
About 20 minutes later, police, with the assistance of the local fire department, found the baby’s body in Hudson Creek.
Paramedics quickly called in reinforcements, tried to revive the toddler and took him to the hospital, where only his death could be determined. Everything indicates that the child drowned after his father escaped from him in an attempt to escape.
For his part, Galorenzo was found and arrested by the police. The suspect is believed to have been intoxicated from drugs or alcohol and is charged with impaired and careless driving, police said.
Further charges could be brought in connection with the infant’s death once the investigation is complete.
