Katie Holmes gave Glamor a candid and wide-ranging interview on Wednesday, in which she opened up about sexual assault, her daughter Suri and not finding herself “sexy”.
The 44-year-old Dawson’s Creek actress was promoting her new film Rare Objects with the release, which she directed as she spoke about her family and her rise to fame.
There is an early scene in the film where the young lead actress Benita, played by Julia Mayorga, is attacked.
She said of capturing the sensitive moment, “What mattered most to me was what it did [Benita] subsequently. Unfortunately for me [sexual assault] is a well-known secret among women, so we don’t have to give too much away to know what we’re talking about.
“Julia was so amazing in that scene and it was really difficult to shoot her because I just needed her face.

“I kept saying to both actors, ‘It’s your faces.’ And so they really had to go there. Everyone was pretty shaken up afterwards.”
She looked incredible for the glamor cover wearing a see-through black and white top with gold detailing and a nose ring.
Other looks saw her pose in a low-cut gold dress with a statement belt, before changing into a quirky white corset top and gray pants.
Rare Objects is based on the novel of the same name by Kathleen Tessaro, which was published in 2016.
Although the book takes place shortly after the Great Depression, Holmes’ film is set in modern New York City.
The film revolves around a young woman trying to rebuild her life by working in an antique shop before various characters from her past reappear.
Elsewhere during the interview, she offered a rare glimpse into family life with her 16-year-old daughter Suri – who she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
She said it was very important to “protect” her since her only child was “so visible at a young age.”
Katie added that she is “grateful” to be her parents because she is such an “incredible person”.
Katie’s new film Rare Objects will be released both in theaters and on-demand on Friday.

In addition to directing the film, the actress co-wrote the screenplay, served as a producer and appeared in a supporting role.
Cast members such as Julia Mayorga, Derek Luke and Gina Jun rounded out the film’s cast.
Deadline had previously revealed the project was in development as of June 2021.
The trailer for the upcoming film was subsequently released to the public last February.
Holmes recently sat down for an interview with Access Hollywood and spoke about how moved she was by the relationship between the novel’s protagonist and the primary supporting character.
“What I love about this film and what drew me to the book is the friendship between these two characters,” she said.

The performer went on to explain that she wanted to portray their relationship in a positive light.
“We see them both struggling with different things in their lives, but they also find the joy in life for each other and we see them support each other. I think it’s really beautiful to see that on screen and to see women supporting each other,” she said.
Mayorga also explained that while working on the set, she quickly bonded with the film’s director.
“I was super excited to work with Katie…there are so many talented people in this film,” she said.
